Video Essay Evaluation.
My new wave video essay was constructed through an array of
sequences from French new wave inspired films. By including these in my video
it allowed the audience to physically see what the films were like and see the
evidence I was analysing for themselves, this also allowed the viewer to derive
meaning from the films based on their own interpretation. I felt that analysing
and finding meaning behind the texts was a key theme surrounding a majority of
the new wave texts that I have looked at for my contextual study.
I decided to use text on my video essay to separate the
videos and music and still have the same atmosphere throughout the video. I liked
how the text introduced each upcoming film which was about to be played and I think
that by using text it allowed to keep the viewer interacted while watching the
video essay.
Whilst assembling the footage together to create my video, I
wanted to make sure that I kept the trademark French new wave style on going so
the video linked together. I did this by adding sound which was classic and old
fashioned as it linked to the era of the French new wave, 1950’s/1960’s. I made
my video have a lot of long takes as that was a convention of the French new
wave so the whole video explored the genre even with subtle shots I included.
Overall, I think I managed my time effectively and used the
research I conducted to my full ability to be able to construct the video successfully.
I felt as though the video explained the French new wave in detail but if I were
to do the video again I would use a voice over within the video to be able to
elaborate on the texts being shown more.
